Industrial Pneumatic Systems
This course equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to plan and safely carry out the maintenance tasks necessary for the efficient running of industrial pneumatic systems whilst working independently or supervising others.

Overview

Skills to Advance Initiative
This course is only available to those currently in employment and fully funded under the Skills to Advance initiative.
Skills to Advance is a national initiative that provides upskilling and reskilling opportunities to employees in jobs undergoing change and to those currently employed in vulnerable sectors. Skills to Advance aims to equip employees with the skills they need to progress in their current role or to adapt to the changing job market. Working closely with small and medium-sized enterprises, Skills to Advance helps employers identify skills needs and invest in their workforce by providing subsidised education and training to staff.
Course Content
This course equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to plan and safely carry out the maintenance tasks necessary for the efficient running of industrial pneumatic systems whilst working independently or supervising others.
The objectives of this certificate course are to:
-
Identify standard components of pneumatic systems and their symbols and describe their function
-
Explain the operation and applications of standard pneumatic components to include valve bodies, valve
actuators, levers, trip rollers and solenoids -
Research the potential hazards associated with pneumatic systems and appropriate mitigating
measures -
Interpret the main legislative and regulatory Health and Safety responsibilities for employers and
employees -
Use a circuit diagram to predict the sequence of operation of a pneumatic circuit
-
Perform the maintenance tasks necessary to achieve a required air quality to include changing filters,
checking dryers and draining reservoirs -
Specify and perform the routine maintenance procedures necessary on Air Service Units for
pneumatic components to include draining and maintaining filters, checking and setting regulators
and checking, topping up and setting lubricators -
Adjust the cushioning on a pneumatic cylinder
-
Interpret circuit diagrams
-
Interpret the gauge readings on compressor installations
-
Perform a leakage test on an installation to include evaluating the results
-
Locate faults in pneumatic circuits using circuit diagrams
-
Construct a variety of circuits as specified in a circuit diagram to include combination circuits with
examples of interlocks and overrides and sequential circuits with two or three group cascades or a
sequencer
Suitability
Applicants must have prior technical experience or knowledge and/or exposure to an industrial environment.

Delivery
This course is delivered over 5 non-consecutive full days. These are all physical classes at CELTEC, Celbridge, Co. Kildare where learners will gain hands-on experience in working with industrial pneumatic systems.

Learners must be available for all days as this is an intensive course with much content to cover over this period.

CELTEC (Celbridge Engineering Lab Training and Education Centre) in Co. Kildare is a facility focused on advanced manufacturing and technical education. It offers specialised training in areas like robotics, industrial systems, additive manufacturing, and Industry 4.0 technologies.
The center emphasises hands-on learning through state-of-the-art equipment, including robotics, cobotics, and virtual reality systems, and fosters expertise in areas like precision engineering and pharmaceutical processes.

The facility includes modern classrooms equipped with multimedia learning tools and advanced laboratories for engineering and industrial training. CELTEC is part of the Kildare Wicklow Education and Training Board's initiatives and provides traineeships and skill development programs tailored for employment in technical and manufacturing roles. Courses often integrate classroom instruction with online, blended, and immersive learning technologies
