This course is only available to those currently in employment and partially funded under the Skills to Advance initiative.

 

Skills to Advance is a national initiative that provides upskilling and reskilling opportunities to employees in jobs undergoing change and to those currently employed in vulnerable sectors. Skills to Advance aims to equip employees with the skills they need to progress in their current role or to adapt to the changing job market. Working closely with small and medium-sized enterprises, Skills to Advance helps employers identify skills needs and invest in their workforce by providing subsidised education and training to staff.

Course Content

KWETB in partnership with FIT (Fastrack into Information Technology) are excited to announce a new opportunity for professionals working in technical industries to develop the skills to become proficient technical-skills trainers. This programme will equip participants with the ability to convey technical concepts in an easy-to-digest and engaging format that will resonate with learners, whilst leveraging advanced digital learning technologies and practices. On completion of the programme, participants will be able to apply their new-found skills in the areas of mentoring, training, and tutoring.

A key aspect of this programme will involve the dissemination of useful pedagogical resources via the FIT Knowledge Arena - Learning Management System (KA-LMS). Participants will be given access to a community of top-quality educators, while also being exposed to a growing bank of innovative teaching supports.

 

Alongside the core Level 6 Train the Trainer qualification, participants will explore a range of resources that outline best practices ensuring the highest standard of technical training. These include a detailed investigation of Prof. Laurillard's Conversational Learning Framework, covering the diverse spectrum of learning types and how they are best served.

Training Needs Identification and Design (6N3325)

The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to identify training and development needs at an organisation and or individual level, to devise a training plan and to explore the scope of training and development design to meet those needs.

Learning Outcomes: 

  • Examine the internal and external environmental factors influencing training and development requirements

  • Differentiate between the concepts of learning, training, development and education

  • Examine the impact of organisation strategy, policy, vision and mission on training and development

  • Examine the purpose of training and development in an organisational and or individual setting

  • Outline the benefits of training needs analysis at an organisation and or individual level

  • Assess a range of approaches and techniques to conduct a training needs analysis

  • Outline the stages in conducting a training needs analysis

  • Assess a range of Instructional System Design (ISD)models

  • Apply a comprehensive range of specialised skills and tools in identifying the barriers to training and attitudes to training in an organisation

  • Devise a training plan based on prioritised training needs to include a cost benefit analysis

  • Design a training intervention, that incorporates a range of design factors to include trainees, adult learning theories, motivation theories, objectives, exercises, training methods, learning aids, location and facilities

  • Develop appropriate training content and materials using a range of learning aids to include web based facilities, software, flipcharts and handouts

  • Evaluate a range of performance management approaches in the context of identifying training and development needs

  • Conduct a Training Needs Analysis(TNA) to identify training and development needs for an organisation and or individual

  • Identify TNA outcomes in terms of gaps in knowledge, skills and attitudes

 

Training Delivery and Evaluation (6N3326)

The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to deliver, assess and evaluate a training and development intervention.

Learning Outcomes: 

  • Outline the concepts and theories underlying the delivery and evaluation of training interventions

  • Explore the elements which impact on the effectiveness of a training session to include, the learning environment, the trainer, learning methodologies and the group dynamics of participants

  • Demonstrate an awareness of a range of issues to include equality, diversity and disability in the context of current legislation with regard to training provision

  • Appraise a range of evaluation models, approaches, tools and techniques used in the evaluation and monitoring of a training and development intervention

  • Deliver appropriate training content and materials using a range of training aids

  • Formulate appropriate evaluation tools, techniques and approaches for a training session to determine whether or not training needs were met and objectives fulfilled

  • Provide constructive feedback to participants in relation to training intervention

  • Apply a comprehensive range of specialised training delivery and evaluation skills in the delivery of an appropriate training intervention

  • Devise a training evaluation process to include the identification of key stakeholders, feedback from the trainee, challenges within the process and the conduct or methodology of the evaluation

  • Select from a range of evaluation tools, techniques and approaches for a training session to determine whether or not training needs were met and objectives fulfilled

  • Report on a training and development evaluation to include the identification of areas of success and of improvement opportunities.

​Module 1: Essential Digital Skills for Technical Trainers

  • Implement the conversational framework to create an engaging learning environment

  • Consider the importance of interactive activities to boost learner engagement

  • Establish clear bite-sized pathways for learners to make guided deeper dives into technical concepts

  • Acknowledge the concept of “Unconscious Competence” and apply it to lessons

 

Module 2: Enhancing Education with Technology & Artificial Intelligence

  • Become proficient with digital tools such as VLE (virtual learning environments) & LMS (learning management systems) for effective synchronous (online) delivery

  • Leverage the latest AI (artificial intelligence) tools to enhance course development, resource curation, and interactive experiences

  • Consider the various needs of diverse audiences for clear, concise, and thorough explanations of complex technical topics

  • Enhance assessment strategies by leveraging the latest pedagogical technologies
